How Data Center Noise, Vibration and Cooling Interact

Cooling fans and CRAC/CRAH units generate airborne noise — broadband roar with tonal peaks at the fan blade-pass frequency, typically across the 250–4000 Hz range. Thousands of small, high-RPM server rack fans add a high-frequency whine (often 2–8 kHz) that is particularly tiring. Its microperforated metal surface uses micro-holes and a backing cavity to act as a Helmholtz/microperforated absorber, achieving high absorption (α > 0.9 across a broad mid-frequency band) without any loose fibres and while allowing cooling air to pass through. That makes it ideal for lining cooling ducts, plenums, hot/cold-aisle containment and acoustic louvres, where it lowers noise et works with — not against — the cooling design.
