Senior Industry Advisor

Beyond our Science Board, Sontech works with senior industry practitioners whose decades of hands-on experience — in regulation, measurement, and applied noise control — complement the academic expertise of the board. Bengt Johansson has been an active contributor to Sontech’s product development since 2015.

Bengt Johansson

Noise & Vibration Specialist · Former Head of Noise & Vibration, Swedish Work Environment Authority (Arbetsmiljöverket)

With over 50 years in industrial acoustics, Bengt Johansson is one of Sweden’s most experienced noise and vibration specialists. After beginning his career as an acoustician at Antiphon AB, he served for 22 years as Divisional Director for Noise & Vibration at Arbetsmiljöverket (the Swedish Work Environment Authority), where he shaped the regulatory framework that still governs workplace noise across Sweden.
Bengt authored the widely used reference book Buller och bullerbekämpning (2001), led the development of Sweden’s landmark noise regulations AFS 2005:16, and represented Sweden as an expert in EU Council negotiations on the Noise and Vibration Directives. He has been an active advisor to Sontech on product development for noise control since 2015.

Key Contributions:

  • Deep expertise in industrial noise measurement, diagnosis, and control across manufacturing, energy, and marine sectors.
  • Author and principal architect of AFS 2005:16 — Sweden’s core workplace noise regulations — giving Sontech direct insight into compliance requirements customers face.
  • Expert in EU noise and vibration directives; participated as Swedish expert in EU Council negotiations.
  • Contributed to hearing protector and acoustic measurement standards through SIS national and international committees (1992–2014).
  • Active participation in Sontech product development for noise control solutions, combining regulatory knowledge with applied engineering.
